The most common way to access e-mail is via a POP3 e-mail client. I've included details on how to configure several of the most popular clients, namely Pegasus, Outlook and Outlook Express. If you have another client, then it's worth reading the set-up information supplied here as it'll help set-up your client, especially as The Plateau's e-mail server implements various security enhancements not commonly found on other e-mail systems - at least those provided by ISP's such as FreeServe, BT Internet etc. All these clients can also use a more modern version of POP3 called IMAP. The major advantage IMAP gives is that the e-mail client sees the same folders as the Web Interface does. So it's best to view IMAP in that context - as an offline version of the Web Interface. It's best used if you prefer to keep all your mail on the server, rather than downloaded it all a single PC. Your mail client will have more detail on this. |
