GROUND RULES - Handover protocol

The handover
Please follow the guidelines below to ensure that our handovers are completed without any confusion:
  • Keep up to date on who's covering what shift by looking at the online rota.
  • When you end your period of cover it is your responsibility to get the kit you've been holding onto one of the partners who is next on the rota before their period of cover commences. Obviously, you have to contact one or both of the next pair to know who to pass the kit on to.
  • Arrange with your partner who has what during your shift. In some partnerships one partner has the large green kit bag and the AED and the other partner has the red bag containing the the mobile phone and other sundry items such as a tabard and "On Call" sign. Note that you can differ from this arrangement if you wish, but the preceding pair on the rota must be aware of your arrangements so that they can supply each of you with the kit of your choice. Likewise, you must be aware of what arrangements the following pair have made so that you and your partner can supply them with the kit of their choice.
  • If you stand in for someone who is unable to cover please ensure that you know who to pass your kit on to and what items of kit he/she normally receives.
If you are unable to cover
If you are scheduled to be on duty at any time and find that you are unable to provide cover please follow this procedure:
  • Most importantly, do something about it ASAP.
  • First, contact Jeremy so that he can amend the online rota. You can email him or phone him. He's able to update the web page 24/7, so that the online rota is always up to date - but only if he's kept informed.
  • Contact your partner and explain that you will be unable to provide cover.
  • Contact those who precede you on the rota and those who follow you so that they know that the usual handover arrangements of the 2 kits will necessarily have to change.
  • If possible, and if you have enough time, ask other members of the group if they are able to provide cover for you.
Can you stand in?
If you see on the rota that one of our group is unable to provide cover, or that person contacts you directly with the information, please give serious consideration to helping out by providing cover - and if you decide to do so ensure that Jeremy and your partner for the shift are aware of the fact.
