Pennard Community First Responders

Minutes of the meeting held on 14 November 2005 at Pennard school

Present: Dem, Eleanor, Laurie, Helen, Bill, Margaret, Frances, Allan, Pauline, Jeremy, David, Bettie, Jane, Emma, Janet and Howard

1.         Minutes of previous meeting

Not consulted.

2.         Matters arising
None.

3.         Status of finances

Allan handed out a balance sheet to all present.

4.         New members

Our 5 new members were warmly welcomed and introduced themselves. We now have an extra 3 personnel in the Pennard/Southgate area and 2 in Bishopston - at last!

5.                 Contents of bags

For the benefit of our new members, but also as a reminder to all, Helen and Dem went through the contents of the bags and demonstrated the use of oxygen and the aspirator. Dem also explained the message in a bottle scheme.

6.         Recent calls

Since the last group meeting on 27 June we have received no fewer than 12 calls, the most recent one being on the day of the meeting (Bill and Margaret). The circumstances of each of the calls was described briefly by the members who attended and it emerged that we are getting a diverse range of calls these days. In most cases, other than administering oxygen, our biggest contribution has been to give TLC where it's most needed.

7.         Changes to the rota

The new members are due to complete their training on Tuesday 15 November so it made sense to update the rota while we were all together. Howard is available most of the week (except alternate Mondays) and has offered to cover with David on Wednesdays 09:00 to 13:00. Janet is available on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and has agreed to cover with Garry from 13:00 to 20:00 on Fridays. Emma will cover on Fridays from 20:00 to 06:00 and will be partnered alternately by Jeremy, Dem, Bill and David, though cover will not start until 22:30 when Bill and David are her partners. Jane and Bettie will cover from 10:00 to 13:00 on Mondays and will need to ensure that when they start their shift they contact control and tell them to contact them via a land line when they are required, as the Orange mobile phone seems not to work in Eastlands Park. Laurie and Helen offered to start their shift on Mondays at 19:00 instead of 20:00. Please see the online rota to see what the new shift rota looks like.

8.         Dinner

Jeremy explained that there were only 2 dates available for booking an evening meal in the golf club during December, the 6th and the 8th. Following a discussion it was clear that the 8th was the most acceptable, though quite a few would miss that because of other commitments. It was therefore agreed that the dinner be postponed until the new year when it's hoped that all will be able to attend. Jeremy will make the necessary enquiries and contact the members in due course.

9.         Clothing

The new members were given polo shirts from stock. Allan will write to Roger Randle to see if the Community Charity will be prepared to sponsor us yet again to purchase extra fleeces for the new members.
