Hot News - Made it to the top of Kilimanjaro.... Welcome to the my home page, firstly a few obvious questions and answers: Who am I? Well avoiding too much philosophical discussion, I'm Paul C. Manning, a fairly normal person from the UK. What do I do? Well now I'm working in Library and Information Services at the University of Wales Swansea (Careful - no comma!!) as "Systems Team Manager" a.k.a. "Head of Systems". This means I have finally made it to the "Big Time", being responsible for a group of seven staff which run the University's Netware 4/5 and Windows NT systems (40+ servers, serving a combined staff and student population of about 15000 users). However, I used to work in Zomba, Malawi at the National Statistical Office as a "Computer Specialist" through the UK volunteer placement organization Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). Before Malawi, I used to work in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at the University of Leicester, which despite my absence seems to be getting along fine. Actually the University made the computer press recently as it decided to gamble on using MS Windows 2000 to replace it's ailing Netware 3.12/Windows 3.1 system - while W2K was still in Beta - courageous eh? Why have I put extensive effort and money in creating this Web Page? Well primarily that can be explained by having a look round at The Plateau. So what have I included here? There's supposed to be a section about my life as a volunteer, but, well, someday.... And I suppose I could add a section about my new life in Swansea for my few Malawian friends with Internet access. Some photos, including the famous (at least amongst my old friends at Leicester university) Lion. Sadly, I'm not that good a photographer, see Libby's pages for some really good stuff - I do animals and sunsets, she does anything and everything else.
